Getting Started

December 20, 2007

First when you hear the word Linux you think Windows.
this means you are a slave or just a passenger.
Linux is a world rather than an OS.
It is a way of living rather than computing environment.
It is the place where you control things.

Windows give you things but….. you should understand you are a slave..
Eat what you get.. do what you are told to… piss when you are told to piss… sleep when you are told to sleep…

Windows Sucks

no that is also good…. just good.. not best..
Now let’s get to the installation part..

1. Decide the OS
2. Get the media
3. Install the stuff
4. configure your life.

here i will explain step by step installation of UBUNTU
get a free media via the shipit section
or download it from here
1. Put the media in the Optical Drive.
2. Boot from the Media
3. Use the first option to initiate the live CD to get a taste of Ubuntu and install it.(but for faster install later you better take the text based install)
4. take a tour around the OS.
5. Now when you decide to install the OS click on the Install Icon on the desktop.
6. choose your language, Timezone, Keyboard, and now hold on…
7. Reaching partition. choose a drive where you want to install linux. (If you are navigating you night have all the drive as windows native partitions , backup your data, and delete that partition). Create a drive of minimum of 2.2 GB in ext3 partition and set the mount point to “/” (without quotes) . another one as swap .. but this one should be double of your main memory size..(ie; if ram=512mb swap =1GB).. but if you have larger ram just create a swap of something less than 256mb.
8. click next and reach the location where you need to enter the user name and root passwd.
9. click next. .. next next… sit back for 15mins and you have ubuntu installed.. after install either choose to continue exploring the live cd or boot into the new world.
